Forum Rules

Post by skittlesthehusky »

Post Structure

These forums were made as a replacement for BHVR's official ones with a focus on facilitating a healthy, mature environment for everyone. As a result, posts are expected to meet the rules outlined in this section.

Please note that these rules apply to users and content posted on this site, as well as any other website affiliated with Fog Dwellers.

1.) No Low Effort Posting
All posts should have reasonable amounts of punctuation and formatting: No giant walls of text, excessive formatting, excessive usage of special characters in replacement of letters, or emoji spam.

For example:
  • Posts with minimal punctuation are fine, but giant bricks of text are not acceptable.
  • A post with a few emojis every line or emojis incorporated as formatting are fine, but walls or repetitive strings of emojis are not acceptable.
  • A post using custom fonts, images and gifs, embeds, colors, etc. to enhance readability or customize a post are acceptable, but intentionally using hard-to-read fonts and colors, making posts only consisting of images or media with no context, or using BBCode that disrupts the flow of the forums are not acceptable.
All posts should be made thoughtfully: No post shall be made with the intentions of causing drama, producing shock value, trolling, spamming, or derailing.

Post Etiquette
1.) User Respect

Responsibly argue: If you are in a heated argument with someone and it comes to a point where neither size is consceding, simply agree to disagree or move to private messages. Do not chase users across posts, resort to name calling, antagonizing, flaming, or ragebaiting.

Keep posts relevant to OP's topic: While this rule does fall under "no derailing", some conversations may steer away from the intention of an opening post. If a conversation strays from the original topic, it's recommended to open a new forum thread to house that topic.

Mention or show names with reason: You are allowed to mention names or show screenshots with names of other players in it, but any posts made with the attempt to disrespect or put a person in a negative spotlight is not allowed.

2.) Content
To ensure the safety and comfort of our users, we have limits on content posted on these forums.

Banned topics and media:
  • Politics
  • Religion
  • Gore
  • Pornography or taboo
  • Content that can be considered morally questionable by the majority
  • Modding or cheating resources that encourage damage or disruption of normal gameplay
  • Media or content that reveals sensitive information about other people (i.e: doxxing)
NOTICE: Any content or user behavior that is capable of, or does violate laws are subject to collection and submission to law enforcement.

Disallowed links and destinations: No links containing donation links, trackers, shopping links, advertising, or links that contain content that falls under banned topics and media.

User Scripts, AI, and Bots: No scripting or botting of user accounts is allowed. This includes automation of messaging or posts. AI is not allowed for post or content generation, but it is allowed to be used to improve formatting, translation of posts, or correct spelling.

3.) User Information
Usernames: Usernames must not mention or contain inappropriate content, special characters, or replicas of other people's names or roles (impersonation).

Personal information and identifiers: Profiles not contain any form of sensitive information about your person. Nicknames are okay.

Signatures: User signatures should be kept reasonable. They should not contain any content that contains banned topics or media. Formatting follows the same rules as forum posts.

Competitive DBD Posts
Tournament advertisements must be approved by moderators and authorized users before posting: To cut down on the amount of unverified tournaments and prize pool/roster deposit scams, all tournaments must be verified by select users. If you would like to post a tournament advertisement, please contact a member that is part of the "Comp Moderator" usergroup.

Resources must be accessible for all users: To ensure resources are legitimate, all resources must be publicly available and legible.

Toxicity is not permitted: Even though this falls under post etiquette, it's prevalent enough to warrant it's own rule. Please treat all users with respect regardless of skill level and knowledge. All rules mentioned in user etiqutte apply.

Moderation Action and Punishments
Trusted users, moderators and administrators of this site may take action against you based on discretion and severity of rule offenses. These punishments can vary anywhere between post limits to permanent bans. Despite moderation discretion, there are set guidelines that are followed by our staff to help ensure that all reports and offenses are handled fairly.

Minor offenses
Minor offenses are defined as situations where:
  • A rule gets broken for the first time
  • A rule or guideline is toed but is not directly broken, or
  • A minor rule (e.g: post formatting guidelines) is broken within reasonable means

Major offenses
Major offenses are defined as situations where:
  • One or more rules have been broken within a short period of time
  • A rule or guideline is toed or repeatedly broken within an account's history
  • A major rule (e.g: posting forbidden content, user etiquette) is broken
Post modifications and account restrictions
If your post is determined to be potentially rule-breaking, a moderator may alter or delete your post with notice to you. This does not equate to a warning unless explicitly specified by the moderator.

You may receive account restrictions, such as loss of the ability to format or submit posts, upload files, send private messages, manage your profile and signatures, and other features that are relevant to your experience on the site. Any account restrictions that you receive will be expressed in detail through a private message if applied. Account restrictions can be temporary or permanent.

Warning and Banning
A warn is issued for both minor and major offenses. Users are given a total of 3 warnings before a ban is issued. Warnings decay after 90 days. Sometimes, scenarios may involve a warning being escalated to a ban by moderator discretion.

Bans are issued for repeat or major offenses. Bans can be temporary or permanent. Ban history does not decay.

Appeals
Depending on your account history, appeals are taken into consideration. If you feel that an action that was taken against you was unfair, a mistake, or you would like to have your punishment reconsidered, please reach out to the staff team through our contact page. Alternatively, you may visit the Discord server and reach out to a staff member there. E-mail is currently not available for appeals at this time.
